VALUE-ADDED DAIRY PROCESSING
Studies show that dairy production has one of the highest economic multiplier factors that benefit employment and income in small rural communities. And dairy product manufacturing has an even higher positive economic multiplier potential for the community. It offers more then double the employment inmact of the highest non-agricultural sector.
Ag Connect is working with the dairy producers to develop a sound cooperative plan to build and operate a local dairy processing plant.

GRASS-BASED DAIRY?
Imagine a dairy Farm where the cows do most of the harvesting!
Some say that is a Grass-Based Dairy. The cows graze in a fresh paddock each day. It is said the milk will be healtier because it is high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Others say it has more good Omega 3 and less Omega 6. Whatever the difference or reason, young families are starting both new dairies and grass-based dairies, because producing milk offers huge promise in the rolling hills of Southwest Iowa!
Ag Connect has encouraged beginning farmers to adopt practices that have made grass-based dairies successful in other states. We have sponsored confrences, pasture walks, and dairy tours so that new producers can learn from others.
We thank The Leopold Center, who has funded our efforts to study and share information on this environmentally friendly method of dairy production.
